Countries Work To Combat Illegal Transfer Of Electronic Waste

19 December 2007 by GreenChinaTech.com Editor | Print Print | Email Email

During a two-day environment minister meeting held in Toyama, Japan, representatives from China, Japan and South Korea exchanged their ideas on fighting cross-border transfer of electronic waste and reached common understanding on solving the issue.

Li Ganjie, deputy director of China's State Environment Protection Administration, attended the meeting. Li met with Japanese Minister of the Environment Ichiro Kamoshita and South Korean Environment Minister Kyu Lee and exchanged ideas with them on environment policies and on strengthening the cooperation with ASEAN countries on environmental protection. The parties said that they would jointly combat the illegal transfer of electronic waste and implement low-carbon economies.

The parties also agreed that it is necessary to further enhance the cooperative mechanism of the China, Japan and South Korea minister meeting to further promote the three countries' cooperation on environmental issues.

As one of the cooperative mechanisms on regional environmental issues in the northeast Asian region, the meeting is held in turn in the three countries and the next years' meeting will be held in South Korea.
