Huaneng Power Puts China's First Supercritical Air-Cooling Power Plant Into Commercial Operation

Huaneng Power International, Inc. has announced that the 60 megawatt supercritical air-cooling desulphurization coal-fired generating unit 5 of the Phase III Project at Huaneng Shangan Power Plant has been approved to go into commercial operation.

Unit 5 of Shangan Power Plant is the first 600MW supercritical air-cooling unit operating in the PRC. The project represents the integration of high-efficiency and low-consumption supercritical power generating technology with water saving direct air-cooling technology for the first time in the PRC. The environmental protection benefits in terms of energy saving and water saving are understood to be significant.

Huaneng Power International, Inc. has a total generation capacity of 36,993MW on an equity basis and a controlling installed generation capacity of 40,389MW. The Company wholly owns 16 operating power plants, an operating power company, and has controlling interests in 13 operating power companies plus minority interests in five operating power companies. Currently, it is one of the largest listed power producers in China.
