Three Chinese Enterprises Join The Climate Group

28 October 2008 by GreenChinaTech.com Editor | Print Print | Email Email

The Climate Group has revealed that its new Chinese members are China Mobile, Broad Air Conditioning, and Suntech Power.

Uniting with other international members of The Climate Group, the CEOs of the three companies have pledged to reduce corporate greenhouse gas emissions and to work with their stakeholders to accelerate a low carbon economy.

Steve Howard, CEO of The Climate Group, said that China is fast establishing itself as a major global hub for low carbon investment, technology and leadership. He added that the CEO's commitments are of national and global importance and significantly strengthen the global business axis needed to address climate change.

China Mobile is the world's biggest wireless telephone operator with 420 million subscribers. Its waste cellphone recycling program, Green Box, was awarded the Chinese Environmental Excellence Award by the Chinese government in 2007. Broad Air Conditioning is the a manufacturer of low-energy air-conditioning units; while Suntech is the world's third largest solar energy company.

A recent report published by The Climate Group "China's Clean Revolution" reveals that China is already the world's leading renewable energy producer and is over-taking more developed economies in exploiting valuable economic opportunities, creating green-collar jobs and leading the development of critical low carbon technologies.

The Climate Group is an independent, nonprofit organization that works with government and business leaders to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. It was founded in 2004 and now has offices in the UK, the U.S., China, India and Australia.
