China's Jiangsu Province will spend more than CNY58.3 billion to treat the pollution of Taihu Lake according to a general plan initiated by National Development and Reform Commission and the relevent departments.

To vet the use of the funds and evaluate the progress of the pollution control project, Jiangsu Provincial Audit Department has begun a pre-auditing investigation in Wuxi to prepare for a track audit of the project that will involve the whole process of the construction, ranging from monitoring the validity, authenticity and regulation of the construction to the financial accounting.

The investment will mainly be used on ten projects covering drinking water safety, polluted water treatment and waste treatment, environmental recovery, and industrial pollution control.
