China Approves Four New Energy Projects

17 March 2009 by GreenChinaTech.com Editor | Print Print | Email Email

According to the website of the National Development and Reform Commission, China has approved four renewable energy projects in the past two months.

Of the four projects, two are said to be hydro-electric facilities with capacities of up to a 1,000 megawatts, and the rest are wind power plants with capacities of 100 megawatts each. The hydro-electric power plants are the Sichuan Daduhe Luding Hydro-electric Plant and Guizhou Beipanjiang Dongqing Hydro-electric Plant, which are both located in Southwest China where there are rich water resource. The two wind power projects are the Hebie Huadian Guyuan Wind Power Plant and the second phase of Jiangsu Rudong Wind Power Plant, both being located at China's "Wind Power Three Gorges".

At a meeting held earlier this year, China stated that it would spend more than ten years building four wind power plants with a combined capacity of over 10,000 megawatts in Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, and Jiangsu. As the combined capacity of these wind power plants is almost the same with that of the Three Gorges, the four regions were nicknamed "The Wind Power Three Gorges".

Each of the wind power facilities approved at this time features large wind turbines rated at 1.5 megawatts.
