MEPC Publishes Four New Chinese Pollution Standards

16 April 2008 by GreenChinaTech.com Editor

China's Ministry of Environmental Protection and General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine have jointly issued four pollutants emission standards.

The four standards are Coalbed Gas Emission Standard (Provisional); Domestic Waste Landfill Pollution Control Standard; Heterocyclic Pesticides and Industrial Waste Water Emission Standard; and the Emission Limit and Measurement Method of Pollutants of Heavy Duty Vehicle Used Engines and Exhaust of Trucks. This is the first batch of national environment standards issued by MEPC following its recent establishment. A representative from MEPC says that the unveiling of the four standards will further improve the control of serious pollutants and consummate China's pollutant emission monitoring system.

The implementation of Coalbed Gas Emission Standard (Provisional) is expected to help control and reduce the quantity of coal mine gas that has not been used so as to prevent environmental pollution and resource waste. It is the first one in the international market to put forward a compulsory measure for greenhouse gas emission control.

As a revision to the Domestic Waste Landfill Control Standard (GB16889-1997), the new Domestic Waste Landfill Pollution Control Standard raises stricter requirements for the waste control during the entire process of waste disposal.

Heterocyclic Pesticides and Industrial Waste Water Emission Standard is China's first national standard regarding the pesticide industry after MEPC initiated the work on pesticide and industrial wastewater control.

The Emission Limit and Measurement Method of Pollutants of Heavy Duty Vehicle Used Engines and Exhaust Of Trucks has lowered the limit for pollutant emissions and improved the emission testing methods while it also sets out requirements for the durability and on-board diagnostics of vehicles' emissions performances.
