Conflicting Reports On Closure Of Lee & Man Paper Production

17 July 2008 by GreenChinaTech.com Editor

Jiangsu Lee & Man (Changshu) Paper Manufacturing Limited has reportedly been ordered to stop production by officials from the Ministry of Environmental Protection because of illegal discharges into the Changjiang River.

This closure, according to local media, is part of audits undertaken by China's Ministry of Environmental Protection. Ten provinces will be examined and the results will be reported to the State Council.

However, according news reports on Sohu.com, the headquarters of Lee & Man Paper says that there is no illegal discharge. The company says it halted production in Changshu due problems at the construction site and the plant's environment. Now some of the production lines are undergoing changes and will resume production soon.

Lee & Man Paper is one of the largest wrapping paper manufacturers in China, and was established in 1994, and listed in Hong Kong in 2003. It has already developed into an international paper-making enterprise, with plants in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Chongqing, Guangxi, and California of the U.S., and offices in Los Angeles, New York and Europe.
