Energy Saving Lights Adopted For Tiananmen Square

16 September 2009 by GreenChinaTech.com Editor

As part of the renovation of the landscape lighting of the Chinese capital for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, thousands of energy saving lights have been adopted for Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

The renovation of the landscape lighting of Tiananmen area covers the lighting of the red walls of Tiananmen, the lighting of the foundation of the Memorial, the lighting of the base of the national flag pole, the lighting of the Golden-River Bridge and the lighting of the View Platform. It is learned that high efficiency lights have been used for these areas which are also free of light pollution. As a result, the total power of Tiananmen Square has reduced from 210.2KW to 100KW. The pollution done by the lights to the environment has also decreased with less than 20 tons of carbon dioxide emission and 0.8 tons of sulfur dioxide emission.

Meanwhile, the renovation of the lighting of Zhengyangmen, an ancient building located at the south part of the Tiananmen Square, has also been completed. The LED lights adopted for the building can help save energy by about 20% compared with the original lights. What's more, the light of these new lamps is free of mercury, which is good to the protection of the ancient building.
